Internship
Program Information
Cumulus
Media
of Poughkeepsie
is welcoming
interns.
Cumulus Media is the
second largest radio
corporation in the
country, owning more
than 300 stations
nationwide in over
fifty markets.
Participants work
for all Poughkeepsie
stations (including alternative
rock, adult
contemporary, rock
and country formats)
and are orchestrated
through the
Promotions
Department.
Interns have
a major impact on
the success of our
Direct Marketing and
Point of Influence
Programs, giving
participants an
education in the
world of corporate
radio, an overview
of effective station
marketing, working
within budgets and
functioning
successfully as the
member of a team.
Not only does
this experience look
great on a resume or
college application,
our interns truly
have fun while
receiving valuable
grooming tips and
professional advice
that will positively
impact their budding
careers!
Unlike most
internships in this
industry, the Cumulus
Media -
Poughkeepsie program
gives participants a
chance to directly
effect the success
of the company they
represent.
Once chosen, interns
will be put on an
e-distribution list
and receive vital
information
regarding their
internship via
newsletters sent
from the Promotions
Department.
There will
also be an
internship
orientation ― aka.
"Radio Is A
Business" 101
― for the group.
Members of
the prestigious Road
Crew (a paid hourly
position in the
Promotions
Department) are
chosen from those
participating in the
internship program.
Interns are
required to work at
least three 4-hour
shifts per week and
are unpaid.
We're looking
for participants at
least 17 years old,
from all academic
backgrounds (as long
as they have a
passion for radio!)
with reliable
transportation.
Students
receiving credit for
the internship are
preferred.
INTERNSHIP
REQUIREMENTS
It
is our hope that you
will develop the
same passion we have
for radio. Your
self-motivation is
critical. When
selecting people for
this program we look
for individuals who
demonstrate a real
interest in this
business. Even if
you aren’t yet
sure which aspect
interests you most,
the fact that you
apply and get your
foot in the door is
the best way to take
the first step
toward developing
your professional
future. Here’s
what we would expect
of you while
you’re here:
Punctuality-
Be here when you say
you will be.
Motivation-
Use your time here
to pursue your
project or
assignment with
determination.
Inquisitiveness-
Ask questions.
Follow people
around. Don’t be
afraid to seek
clarification if
something is not
clear to you.
Flexibility-
One of the most
important personal
aspects of this
industry is being
able to modify the
most meticulously
prepared plans.
Radio is a medium of
the moment.
Patience-
Because we have to
be flexible,
sometimes we may
have to put you off,
reschedule a meeting
or make you wait.
Bear it with a grin
because it’s part
of the game.
Persistence-
Don’t be afraid of
being pushy. Most of
us in this business
got here because we
bugged someone until
they gave in and
gave us our shot. If
you know you have a
talent for what we
do, take the steps
you need to realize
your goal.
Even
if you have already
decided what career
you would like to
pursue in radio, it
is important to
understand how each
department works. During
an internship here
at Cumulus
Broadcasting in
Poughkeepsie we will
give you the chance
to work in multiple
departments.
This will provide
you with an
understanding on how
radio works as a
whole.
Additionally, your
internship may help
guide you to the
departments of
highest interest to
you in hopes of
helping you make
some wise career
choices.
Some
tasks that you will
do as an intern:
·
Assisting
road crew team
members with the set
up for station
events
(appearances).
·
In-Studio
assistance
·
Work
in production and
other departments
·
Lots
of behind the scenes
work, plus many
projects to help
teach you the ways
of radio.

concerts and
understanding all
that is involved.
·
Plus
much much more!
